Artists win awards with LightWave 3D for everything from Oscar® and Emmy® Awards to regional broadcast and design awards. Kelly Jones is one of the many artists who rely on LightWave to deliver stellar 3D content to clients—the gravy is that he also gets to bring home awards for his work with LightWave, including two Utah Golden UBEE awards for broadcast animation and most recently a 2013 Telly Award for a 3D training video.
Jones, who has been using LightWave since version 4 on the PC has been teaching 3D and visual effects at the high school and college levels for more than 10 years; began his career in 3D at Foundation Imaging. He also trains artists at the Imagination Exchange and LightWave is his tool of choice. Many of his students have moved on to make their mark the world of CG on popular LightWave-based shows like the Syfy Channel’s Sharknado and Battlestar Galactica.
Jones’ 2013 Telly Award was for a safety training video he created for CR England. LightWave was used start to finish for the project. “All the animation, modeling, lighting, surfacing and rendering was done in LightWave,’ explains Jones. “I had to come up with a few different rigs to animate, but all the crashes between the trucks and cars was accomplished with LightWave's Bullet Dynamics, while morph targets were used to crumple the cars.” Jones continued, “LightWave made it very easy to change and redo scenes, raising the bar with each animation.”
